Carles Mitjà was born in Barcelona in 1948. He spent more than 15 years as a professional photographer. His work focuses mainly on illustration for the publishing industry, advertising and industrial photography. His personal photographic interests have always been centred on landscape and urban photography. At the present time he is a member of the Royal Photographic Society (RPS) and the Adobe Influencers Programme. Since February 2014 he has concentrated on his own work and on research into improvements that digital technology might have for photogravure on copperplate (heliogravure) and other alternative processes. In February 2017 he received a distinction ASIS/FRPS (Accredited Senior Imaging Scientist and Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society).
