Mariano Zuzunaga

Biography

Mariano Zuzunaga (Lima, 1953), a pianist and photographer, started his career as a photographer in 1972 with a work inspired by that of Alexander Calder. He studied music, photography and history. He has lived in Barcelona since 1975. In 1980 his work soon received recognition having been exhibited at the Joan Miró Foundation. Among the public and private institutions that hold his work are the Museum of Modern Art in New York; the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris; the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston (Allan Chasanoff Collection); the Ansel Adams Archives (Center for Creative Photography, in Tucson); the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona; the Tapiés Foundation in Barcelona; the Museo de Arte in Lima; the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC); the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona; the Foto Colectania Foundation in Barcelona; the Museo de Arte de la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima and the Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofia (MNARS) in Madrid. He graduated in History and received a doctorate in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona. He is a founding member of The Photographer+s Company.
