Biography

Juan Miguel Morales López (Almeria, 1967) studied photography at the Photographic Studies Institute of Catalonia from 1991 to 1994 and has worked as a professional photographer established in Barcelona since 1992. He is interested in portrait and social photography as well as photojournalism and has always seen the possibility in his work to assert and reinforce our own culture while learning and exploring many others in the different worlds to be found in our own surroundings. Since 1994 he has been a member of the team responsible for the photography in Catalan musical magazines of the Enderrock group and he is the official photographer for the Barnasants Singer, Song-writer Festival. As a photographer and documentalist, he formed part of the team which set up the exhibition, La Nova Cançó. La veu d'un poble at the Museu d'Història de Catalunya in 2010. He has produced record covers for Maria del Mar Bonet, Lluís Llach, Carlos Cano, Joan Isaac, Enric Hernàez and Joan Amèric, and many others.

He has produced reports and exhibitions on Bosnia, Guatemala, the culture of the Andes, Cuban music and the singer song-writers of Catalonia, Spain, and Latin America. In 1996 he self-published the photograph book, Retrats de Cantants i músics, which was distributed by the Enderrock group, and in 2000 the Andalusian Photography Centre published the book Retratos de Cantantes, with texts by Luís Eduardo Aute, Javier Ruibal and Marina Rossell. Together with the journalist Omar Jurado he is the author of the books, El Chile de Víctor Jara (Lom Edicions, 2003), Víctor Jara. Te recuerda Chile (Txalaparta, 2003), Món Llach (Mina, 2006) and Lluís Llach. Sempre més lluny (Txalaparta, 2007). With the journalist Josep Maria Hernández Ripoll he has published the book, Barnasants. Barricades de cançons (Edicions Cal·ligraf, 2015) and he has contributed to numerous books by various authors as well as to magazines and newspapers.
