Eugeni Gay Marín

Biography

Eugeni Gay Marín was born in Barcelona in 1978 and has worked as a photographer and teacher since 2003. He graduated in biology and anthropology and it was his interest in anthropology that led him to focus his photographic work on different ways of life and different ways of interpreting the world, and attempting to understand human behaviour when confronting different situations. His photographs have been published in many media including El País Semanal, Burn Magazine and Lonely Planet. He has contributed to collective book publications and has been selected at numerous festivals such as Trafic’08 and ’09 (in the context of new values in documentary photography), SevillaFoto’09, the 4th Xavier Miserachs Biennial, the 2012 International de Valparaiso Festival, Voies Off’14, Paraty em Foco’14, FineArt Iguala’15, Ankor Photo Festival'15 and the 2015 Pa-ta-ta Festival. He has participated in numerous collective exhibitions such as the Spanish Photography virtual exhibition, organised by the Photographic Museum of Humanity. He has also held individual exhibitions in Barcelona, Madrid, Vitoria, Bilbao, Murcia, Granada, Palafrugell ands Igualada, as well as in other countries including France (Arles) and Bolivia. His Sikhs and Yak42 projects were finalists at the Gijón International Festival and his project, Déus de Quitrà received the 2011 El Invernadero grant, and was finally the winner. In 2014 he was awarded the FNAC New Talent prize for photography for his series, Des de l'illa Quàntica. This series, produced for the Voies Off Festival, was also exhibited in Arles where it won the 2014 SAIF Prize. He was a finalist with the same project at the Golden Camera and NexoFoto competitions. In 2014 he was a finalist at the 20th "la Caixa" Photopress Awards. In 2010 he cofounded the Observatorio together with Camilla de Maffei, an educational project focused on guiding students' photographic projects.
